*Superhero Yoga Song (class plan for children 2 to 6 years of ages 30 mins to 1 hour)*
Preparing a superhero yoga class is a lot of fun. Superheroes all have special powers and so do we. Sometimes we just need a little help from these fun characters to remember them. This class is a fun way to practice positive affirmations.
To warm up you can do a few rounds of superhero sun salutations or have a little fun with this song I wrote (sing to the hymn of Frère Jaques)
Superhero Yoga Song
Poses recommended to accompany the tune
Superheroes, Superheroes They breathe in and breathe out Superheroes fly up Superheroes fly down They are kind, They are kind
|
Hands together over head, hands to heart center Hands reach for the sky like Superman Hands reach for the toes Hands to heart center |
Superheroes, Superheroes They breathe in and breathe out Superheroes are brave Superheroes are brave They are kind, They are kind
|
Hands together over head, hands to heart center Moon pose right side like Martian man Moon pose left side you can do it! Hands to heart center |
Superheroes, Superheroes They breathe in and breathe out Superheroes are strong Superheroes are strong They are kind, They are kind
|
Hands together over head, hands to heart center Cactus arms (legs in standing squat) like Hulk Twist right ten twist left Hands to heart center |
Superheroes, Superheroes They breathe in and breathe out Superheroes love to learn Superheroes love to learn They are kind, They are kind |
Hands together over head, hands to heart center Chair pose like Spiderman holding on to a wall Sit down just a little lower Hands to heart center |
Then choose your favorite superhero book and associate yoga poses to each character ex: Superman flies – warrior 3 and Aquaman swims - cobra flutter your arms to swim.
For kids who are tired and/or ready for meditation you can try a guided visual meditation: have them lie down on their belly, arms stretched forward as if they’re flying and eyes closed. Start by putting them in their favorite superhero’s shoes: what special power do they choose to use? What kind act are they performing? How do they feel?
A hands on activity to close the class can be color a superhero and choose his or her special power or make your own superhero cape decorate it with stickers and positive superpowers (affirmations) to boot. For a very young class the cape activity with stickers really gets the little ones to focus and clam down. See cape picture below.

Remember to open and close your class with familiar greetings and goodbye songs or words J
